About the song 

 

"This song is an homage to Nathalie Champagne and her project Sur Les Toits du Monde. It portrays the powerful  impact Nathalie and her magical space had on changing the lives of hundreds, perhaps thousands, of people who had the chance to experience her friendship and her space.

 

This was recorded upon special request to share with all who knew this magnificent woman.

The story of how this song came to be is quite significant:

 

In the final weeks of Nathalie’s life, she asked me and two friends to play her a private concert in her living room. At about 2 am, hours after we’d begun, none of us knew what else to play.

 

So I picked up my friend's ukulele (even though I don’t play the ukulele) and began strumming. I was sitting right in front of Nathalie, next to her fireplace, and I was just looking at her as she lay in her chair. Suddenly, words began flowing from me, and chords formed on the ukulele… and this entire song came through me from beginning to end, in its entirety, on the spot. 

 

Luckily, one of the other musicians had recorded the entire night on her cell phone, capturing this transmission,  preserving it. Otherwise this song would have come and gone that night, as it would be impossible for me to reconstruct it from memory.

I devote this song to you, Nath! Straight from the heavens, it passed through my heart and came out my mouth, and back to you in the heavens above!

To her friends: May this song connect you to her essence, the sweet memories of her and that space, the first time you walked through those doors… the light in your heart, and that space we all called Home. May we carry its essence forward with us wherever we go, forever and always. The beacon of light that we are now tasked to spread beyond that sacred mountain top. Howl like a wolf, caw like a raven. That Home will be alive forever in our hearts as long as we keep the light on within ourselves.
