About the Song
This song is an ode to and conversation with the River. As an outdoor enthusiast, canoeist and expedition guide, my time spent connecting with the river teaches me a lot about the world around me, about myself, about life and about mindfulness for the Earth. Learning to work with the wild flow of the river is incredibly humbling. The lyrics of this song are based on a near-drowning experience I once had while paddling some pretty gnarly rapids. Weaved between the lines are some of the learnings and perspectives that have come out of this experience as well as other transformative experiences I've had in the wilderness. In the chorus I speak of our connection to "Mother's Waters": the water of the Earth that composes us and moves through us all. May we honour, learn from, cultivate a loving relationship with, and work to protect the Earth's waters.
